Four of the 29 assessment tools reviewed examined multiple topic areas. The Feelings and Behavior Questionnaire was designed to assess sexual assault survivors’ emotional and behavioral responses to trauma. Researchers asked victims/survivors to respond to how they felt at the moment of the interview, regardless of when the assault occurred. The Forensic and Medical Care Following Sexual Assault Service Education Program Evaluation Questionnaire is a self-administered instrument to assess medical personnel’s knowledge and satisfaction concerning their care of sexual assault patients. The International Planned Parenthood Federation, Western Hemisphere Region’s Survey of Provider Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices is an interview administered instrument to examine these 3 domains concerning the care of violence survivors. The Medical Protocol (History Sheet - Sexual Assault) was designed for clinicians to administer to their patients to collect information concerning health and service delivery issues, including information on the patient’s sexual history, experiences of sexual assault, and medico-legal responses to the assault.
These four instruments vary not only in the topics that they assess, but also their format. One was designed for administration to sexual assault survivors and three were designed for administration to healthcare providers. They use self-administered and interview-administered approaches. All four instruments are available in English and one is available in Spanish. Little information was located concerning the time it takes to administer these instruments, the method of scoring the instruments, or the psychometric properties of the instruments.
