• Are attitudes to rape beginning to change?. IRIN News, 19 February 2008. Egypt was scandalised last summer when an 11-year-old girl named Hend Farghali was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old man. Petrified, the girl did not tell anyone until she was five months pregnant.
  
• In Egypt, a Rising and Vocal Push Against Genital Cutting. The New York Times, 20 September 2007. The men in this poor farming community were seething. A 13-year-old girl was brought to a doctor’s office to have her clitoris removed, a surgery considered necessary here to preserve chastity and honor.
• UNICEF Urges End to Female Genital Mutilation in Egypt. Voice of America, 18 September 2007. The United Nations Children's Fund says the practice of female genital mutilation remains unacceptably high in Egypt.
• UNICEF: Egypt among leading nations battling female circumcision. International Herald Tribune, 13 September 2007. Egypt has moved to the forefront among nations attempting to eradicate female circumcision, UNICEF said Thursday, applauding efforts by the government and religious leaders in the country.
• Egyptian man forces his wife to be circumcised. International Herald Tribune, 01 September 2007. An Egyptian man forced his 20-year-old wife to be circumcised after a year of marriage, resulting in her hospitalization for acute bleeding, the state-run news agency reported Saturday.
