Mentoring Programme

The SVRI is excited to announce the return of our SVRI Forum Mentoring Programme for the SVRI Forum 2017: Partnership for policy action, 18 – 21 September, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  We would like to invite abstract submissions from young researchers (18 – 35 years) in the field of sexual and intimate partner violence, and violence in childhood.

This programme will provide an opportunity for young abstract submitters to receive guidance on developing their presentations for the conference, and where available, support attendance to the event. The programme is aimed at young researchers from Low and Middle-Income Countries, who lack access to opportunities of attending conferences and delivering conference presentations.

Eligibility Criteria
The Abstract Mentoring Programme will follow a competitive application process. The following criteria apply:

  • Applicants are 35 years of age or younger (born 1981 and after)
  • Applications from Low and Middle-Income Countries are invited to apply. Please visit the World Bank to see if you are eligible
  • Applicants have an abstract to submit on current research activities on sexual violence,  intimate partner violence, and / or violence in childhood that meets a SVRI Forum 2017 theme or topical issue.
  • Applicants should preferably have published in grey or peer-reviewed literature
  • Applicants have not taken part in a previous SVRI Forum Abstract Mentoring Programme

Application Process
Applicants 35 years of age and younger must submit their abstracts through the formal submission system for review. Please also confirm your interest in participating this programme by emailing Lizle Loots at svri.forums@mrc.ac.za.

Please ensure that you indicate your interest in the programme to us on or before 1st of February 2017 to be considered. Abstracts must be submitted by 1 February 2017 and follow submission guidelines as outlined on the webpage
