Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has led the KRG’s drive to tackle honour killings by calling for changes in the law, open debate, training and education, and greater support from government, religious and social leaders, the media and civil society organisations.
  • Iran Hangs 2 on Murder and Rape Charges. The New York Times, 18 February 2008. Iran on Sunday executed two men — one accused of murder and the other of raping children — in a prison in the northeastern province of Khorasan, the ISNA news agency reported.
  • Iran Executes Nine Convicted of Rape, Drug Charges. Fox News, 02 August 2007. Iran held a public execution on Wednesday of seven men convicted of rape, according to the state-run ISNA news agency.
  • Iran publicly hangs rapist. Independent Online 26 July 2007. Iran on Thursday hanged in public a man convicted on two counts of rape in the northern city of Sari, the Iranian state-run television website reported.
  • Sailor says she feared rape. Gulfnews, 9 April 2007. The lone woman among 15 British sailors detained by Iranian forces said in an interview published on Monday that she feared she could be raped and then killed.
