  • Women's Rights are human rights - Protection from harm or abuse. Jamaica Gleaner News, 21 April 2008. Despite the passing of the Domestic Violence Act (1995) and its amendment (2004), gender-based violence against women physically, sexually and emotionally is still widespread.
  • Teacher on rape charge. Jamaica Gleaner, 20 March 2008. A 26-year-old teacher, Andre McLean, of a Portland address, was yesterday offered $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Buff Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of rape and abduction involving a 12-year-old student.
  • Global expert on violence urges Jamaican parliament to focus on children. UNICEF, 26 February 2008. A leading authority on violence against children today pressed Parliamentarians to concentrate on the plight of children in Jamaica’s effort to break the cycle of violence affecting the country.
  • Child 'wives' - Sexual slavery illegal and harmful. Jamaica Gleaner, 10 February 2008. Mary Clarke, children's advocate and former director of the Social Development and Gender Unit at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), is concerned about the failure of Jamaicans to report child abuse - and especially sexual abuse - to the Sexual Abuse Registry, established for the purpose.
  • Prime Minister Gonsalves denies rape allegations. The Jamaica Observer, 2 February 2008. Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves yesterday categorically denied raping a female police officer, saying it is an attempt by his political adversaries "to damage me politically and to discredit me in the eyes of the people".
