Dr Michael Peel is a General Practitioner (primary care physician) in a British prison and also in mainstream practice. He was a Senior Medical Examiner at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture between 1993 and 2008, during which time he helped raise awareness that male rape in detention was not uncommon in some countries. He has also worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner (police surgeon) in London. He has edited a number of books and articles including Rape as a Method of Torture: http://www.torturecare.org.uk/files/rape_singles2.pdf , and he wrote the introduction and the chapter on male rape. He has worked and taught in many countries. In 2004 he was an adviser to the United Nations on review of the Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture of the High Commission for Human Rights.
