In 2009, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative held its first international conference, the SVRI Forum 2009: Coordinated evidence-based responses to end sexual violence, 6 – 9 July 2009, Johannesburg, South Africa. Participants from over 28 countries came together to debate, discuss and share new ideas and innovations for research on sexual violence with a particular emphasis on research in developing countries. An important output of the SVRI Forum 2009 was the identification of some key research priorities. These priorities guided the crafting of the SVRI Forum programme and structure.
