  • The SVRI Forum Spotlight: Driving Change in South Africa - a frontline response to sexual violence in Rustenburg
    Narrated by South African broadcaster Cathy Mohlahlana, ‘Driving Change in South Africa’ (which has also been dubbed into Setswana) offers a unique glimpse into Lebo’s life growing up with violence and poverty in South Africa’s tough mining region. Lebo sensitively describe his experience in supporting ‘clients’ and as a father teaching his daughter to protect herself. A survivor Poppy, who received treatment in an MSF supported clinic shares her experience of interacting with MSF’s drivers, who made a difference in her treatment journey.   • The SVRI Forum Spotlight: Raising Voices revises SASA! Together.
    SASA!, the evidence-based approach to preventing violence against women (VAW) developed by Raising Voices has been revised in SASA! Together. The revision was inspired by the evidence in the broader field of VAW prevention field and practice-based learning generated from using SASA! in various contexts over the last decade. Highlights of SASA! Together include:
    ·       a revised theory of change including three strategies that directly engage each level of the ecological model;
    ·       a focus on sexual decision-making;
    ·       an embedded curriculum for couples;
    ·       increased focus on skill building;
    ·       a variety of new activities to engage communities in creative and impactful ways;
    ·       new section for supporting staff, activists, leaders and institutional allies; and,
    ·       a strengthened learning and assessment framework that supports iterative programming.

  • The SVRI Forum Spotlight: Find out What Works to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls 
    The What Works to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls Global Programme, funded by UK Aid, has been investing in primary prevention efforts across Africa and Asia for the last six years, efforts that seek to understand and address the underlying causes of violence, effective interventions to prevent it, and evidence on the costs of VAWG. Results from the programme show that violence against women and girls is preventable. On Wednesday 23rd October, the director of the programme, Professor Rachel Jewkes will be sharing lessons from rigorous evaluations across 15 countries in Africa and Asia on what works (and doesn’t) to prevent violence. This event marks the culmination of the What Works programme, details in the programme here
  • The SVRI Forum Spotlight: Global study from the Equality Institute highlights urgent need for more investment in VAWG prevention
    Violence against women and girls remains an epidemic and costs the global economy trillions of dollars. Yet, recent research conducted by the Equality Institute estimates that investment in the prevention of VAWG over the past five years has totalled just USD2.042 billion - less than 0.002% of annual Official Development Assistance.
