The SVRI Forum 2017 will be held in the beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the 18th to 21st September 2017.

With a population of over 202 million, Brazil is the largest country in the LAC region.  Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil, best known for its carnival atmosphere and its pristine nature with stunning beaches and tropical forests. Rio has modern outlooks that reflects its revolution throughout the years. This offers great opportunities to explore Brazil’s top class restaurants, tourist and attraction sites. We welcome you to participate in the most important go-to global conference, the SVRI Forum 2017, and to continue to exchanging knowledge and experience in preventing and responding to sexual and intimate partner violence in the unique atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro.

Visas and passports (Visa letter)
Partners, researchers and colleagues traveling to Brazil for the SVRI Forum 2017 must present an approved travel document (passport or identity card). Visas to enter into Brazil are a requirement for a number of countries. It is the responsibility of each delegate to ensure that they have the correct documentations before travelling to Brazil.

According to the Brazilian immigration services website, People from the European and South American countries need not to apply for a visa for a tourist stay of 90 days. If your country is in the list of countries that requires a visa kindly visit a Brazilian embassy close to you to apply. Click here to download a visa letter.

You need to complete an online visa application form and also contact the Brazilian embassy for further details on how to proceed to get a visa.

DAY TOURS

4-hour Tijuca Forest tour: The open-air jeeps provide a unique opportunity to enjoy Rio in the fresh air. After pick-up at hotel, tour starts riding on a lesser known road that begins behind the Botanical Gardens. First stop will be at the Monkeys' Waterfall with a natural pool for a chilling dive. Fantastic setting and during summer, some macumba leftovers. Returning to the jeep, a second stop now at Vista Chinesa - "Chinese Belvedere" a lookout that has a pagoda-like gazebo. Further up and already entering the Tijuca Forest National Park, passing by the Açude da Solidão which is a secondary entrance to the forest. After going into the forest a bit, jeep stops at the entrance of Toca da Onça trail. On foot, descending for some 30 minutes, this trail is level, without obstacles and fantastic. Participants cannot believe that one is in the middle of a "jungle" in Rio de Janeiro! Return to the hotel will be by the Canoas Road passing by São Conrado district. It is recommended to wear tennis or comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, a hat, sunscreen lotion.

3-hour Favela tour: Rio’s favelas (shanty towns) are worldwide known for their diversity of colours, creeds, styles and people. A truly anthropological lesson throughout the paths and smiles of typical Cariocas, experiencing a bit of their daily routine in their search for survival. In this tour we visit the shanty-town, where we can watch the routine of this community. We walk through the small streets, watch the local commerce. There is also a free market with food and hand-made goods.

Cost: 3-hour Favela (slum) Tour is US$48 per person

5-hour Corcovado & Santa Teresa tour: A tour by the world’s most famous landmark, the statue of Christ, the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain, followed by the most stunning landscapes created by Nature and the wonders of the bohemian life in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Rio, Santa Teresa: a tour marked by the diversity that characterizes the best of the Marvellous City.

5-hour Corcovado & Sugar Loaf tour: After pick-up, tour will take the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon will reach the Rebouças tunnel, a 2.6 km long complex that links the southern and northern parts of the city cut in half by the Tijuca ridge that makes Rio the only city in the world to have a National Park 5 minutes from downtown. Reaching the Cosme Velho district, tour members will take a cogwheel train that climbs the mountain from its base at 15 metres to almost its summit at 670 metres. The very top is reached by taking escalators to reach the base of Christ the Redeemer statue. This statue covered with a mosaic of soapstone is one of Rio's finest Art Nouveau monuments. The view, from this vantage point, with the surrounding Tijuca National Forest spreading below and a circle of mountains closing the horizon at the very back of the Guanabara bay. Later on, you will be taken to the neighbourhood of Urca where one of the largest symbols of the city is located: the Sugar Loaf. This visit is made in two steps by cable car. The first cable car takes passengers to Urca Hill and from where one can have a beautiful view from the Guanabara Bay and its islands, the Rio-Niteró Bridge and Corcovado Hill.

4-hour Botanical Garden & Tijuca Forest tour: In the heart of the southern neighbourhoods, a wealthy area in the city, a place for the green preservation stands out. The Botanical Garden has a wide variety of exotic plants, which make an excellent example of flora diversity. Each of the 141 hectares of Rio's Botanical Gardens shelters outstanding examples of plant life from Brazil and all over the world. The Imperial Palms are among its most spectacular attractions, planted in 1809 by Prince Regent D. João VI. Huge trees decked with orchids contrast with giant water lilies, bromeliads, Royal Poinciana and tropical foliage, making the Botanical Gardens a favourite hideaway for nature-lovers, sweethearts and all those seeking peace and tranquillity. Along with the Tijuca Forest, it is one of the city’s natural wonders.

2-NIGHT PACKAGES OUTSIDE RIO

Paraty is a preserved Portuguese colonial (1500–1822) and Brazilian Imperial (1822–1889) municipality with a population of about 36,000. It is located on the Costa Verde (Green Coast), a lush, green corridor that runs along the coastline of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Paraty has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, renowned for the historic town and the coast and mountains in the region. The town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, which is dotted with many tropical islands. Rising up as high as 1,300 metres behind the town are tropical forests, mountains, and waterfalls. It is the southernmost and westernmost city in Rio de Janeiro state. Paraty has great tourist appeal due to its natural beauty, and is listed a National Historic Landmark. More than 80% of its territory is protected by conservation units.

Búzios is a resort town and a municipality located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Today, Búzios is a popular getaway from the city and a worldwide tourist site, especially among Brazilians and Argentinians.

In the early 1900s Búzios was popular with the Carioca’s high society, who wanted to escape from the chaotic city life of Rio de Janeiro and enjoy over 23 beaches that the peninsula offers. But it wasn’t until 1964, when the French actress Brigitte Bardot visited Búzios, that it grew to be a popular international tourist destination.

Today, the peninsula is a travelling site that offers calmness, direct contact with nature and scenic views. The west coast beaches offer calm, clear waters while the east coast ones, facing the open sea, are more wild and draw surfers and water sports enthusiasts. Azeda, Ferradura, João Fernandes and Armação are amongst the most popular beaches in town. At night, Rua das Pedras, Buzios' main street, offers its visitors an active nightlife and a great variety of shopping and restaurants.

Foz do Iguaçu is the Brazilian city on the border of Iguaçu Falls, located on the border of Argentina and Brazil. The falls consist of approximately 257 individual falls over 2.7 km were chosen as one of the "New Natural Seven Wonders of the World."

The city is characterized by tourism and cultural diversity. There are about 80 nationalities, being the most representative from Italy, Portugal, Lebanon, China, Paraguay and Argentina. Foz do Iguaçu is integrated into a tri-national region, bordering the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este. The city's economy is based on tourism, with emphasis on trade and services. Foz do Iguaçu is home of the Itaipu dam, the world's largest hydroelectric plant in power generation.

The Amazon rainforest is a moist broadleaf forest in the Amazon biome that covers most of the Amazon basin of South America. This basin encompasses 7,000,000 square kilometres, of which 5,500,000 square kilometres are covered by the rainforest. This region includes territory belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests, and comprises the largest and most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world, with an estimated 390 billion individual trees divided into 16,000 species.

  • Day 1 - Transfer from your hotel in Rio to the airport. Upon arrival in Manaus, transfer to the Amazon Eco Park. Accommodation, dinner and overnight.
  • Day 2 - After breakfast, hike in the nearby forest. Lunch followed by a visit to a local Amazonian resident. After dinner, boat trip to enjoy the sounds of nature. Overnight.

Salvador, also known as Salvador da Bahia is the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. With 3 million people, it is the largest city proper in the Northeast Region and the 3rd-largest city proper in the country, after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Founded by the Portuguese in 1549 as the first capital of Brazil, Salvador is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. A sharp escarpment divides its Lower Town (Cidade Baixa) from its Upper Town (Cidade Alta) by some 85 meters. The Elevador Lacerda, Brazil's first elevator, has connected the two since 1873. The Pelourinho district of the upper town, still home to many examples of Portuguese colonial architecture and historical monuments, was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. The city's cathedral is the see of the primate of Brazil and its Carnival celebration has been reckoned as the largest party in the world. Salvador was the first slave port in the Americas and the African influence of the slaves' descendants makes it a centre of African-Brazilian culture. The city is noted for its cuisine, music, and architecture. Porto da Barra Beach in Barra has been named one of the best beaches in the world.

  • Day 1 - Transfer from your hotel in Rio to the airport. Upon arrival in Salvador, transfer to the Hotel Golden Tulip Salvador or similar. Accommodation and overnight.
  • Day 2 - After breakfast, depart for a comprehensive city tour: leaving the hotel, tour will stop at Barra Lighthouse, entrance to the All Saints Bay. Baía de Todos os Santos / All Saints' Bay is not only biggest bay but also one of the biggest in the world. Barra Lighthouse was build using the foundations of the Santo Antonio Fort. After time for photos, tour will pass by Santa Maria Fortress, Porto da Barra where Tomé de Souza docked in the 16th Century; Ladeira da Barra, Vitória and its 19th Century mansions; Campo Grande and the monument of the Liberation of Bahia; Castro Alves Theatre, Sete de Setembro Avenue and its throbbing commercial life; São Bento Monastery and last but not least - the main stage of Bahian Carnival - Castro Alves Square. This is the site of the Portuguese America. Tour will continue visiting the upper entrance of the Lacerda Lift; See Square; Terreiro de Jesus - a square with 5 churches, among them the Basilica Cathedral, the Saint Francis of Assisi church - built in the 18th Century and famous for its gold-inlaid interior. Pelourinho declared in 1985 a UNESCO World Monument, Latin America's biggest colonial complex with buildings dating back from the 16th, 17th and 18th Century, that has been completely overhauled by the city authorities. Another stop will be at Carmo church and monastery for a visit. Accommodation and overnight.
