Dr Aník Gevers is an independent consultant specialising in training & development of evidence-based interventions & programmes focusing on primary prevention of VAWC, child & adolescent mental health & well-being, and trauma-related mental health issues.
Anik trained as a clinical a psychologist and researcher in the USA and South Africa completing a PhD at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), masters degree at the University of Missouri-St Louis (USA), and undergraduate degree at Grinnell College (USA). She has worked in a variety of clinical, research, & development settings in countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific Region, the Middle East, and North America. She holds an honorary faculty position at the Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health, University of Cape Town in the Adolescent Health Research Unit. She worked at the Gender & Health Research Unit at the South African Medical Research Council as a senior researcher across multiple projects focusing on intervention development & evaluation in the field of health promotion, violence prevention & response, and mental health support in the aftermath of sexual violence. In addition, she is a technical adviser for the Sexual Violence Research Initiative, an academic supervisor for postgraduate students at several institutions, and conducts reviews of manuscripts in local and international indexed academic journals and international conference abstract selection. She has consulted for various organisations globally including projects to develop primary prevention of VAWG/GBV/IPV interventions with integrated M&E systems, improve youth engagement strategies at clinics, train service providers in primary prevention & post-sexual violence care interventions.
