What Works What Works to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Global Programme is a global evidence and practice initiative funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to advance our understanding of how to end VAWG. This programme consists of two global initiatives: What Works What Works to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls (What Works 1) and the successor programme What Works to Prevent Violence – Impact at Scale (What Works 2).
What Works 1:
The UK Government, over 7 years invested £25,420,000 in research and innovation on the prevention of VAWG. The programme ran from 2013-2019 – the culmination of which are global learnings on what works to end VAWG. Visit the What Works 1 online resource for findings and lessons from rigorous evaluations across 15 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East on what works (and doesn’t) to prevent violence, the results of which show that violence against women and girls is preventable. The resource also provides research findings on the economic and social costs of violence, and what are the specific elements for violence prevention in conflict and humanitarian settings.
What Works 2:
The ‘What Works to Prevent Violence – Impact at Scale’ Programme is a seven-year initiative funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to improve prevention and response to violence against women and girls. What Works 2 on the success of its predecessor (‘What Works 1‘), the ‘What Works 2’ programme will invest £67.5 million to prevent and contribute to eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) and how to do so at scale.
