Sangeeta has over 15 years of experience addressing violence against women and violence against children. She has held several roles in non-profit organisations and universities, providing services and conducting research to ensure women* are safe, violence-free, and economically secure. Her research focuses on developing valid and reliable methods to measure different forms of violence against women, developing, adapting and testing interventions for violence prevention, and examining structural and economic inequalities that underlie violence against women and children. Sangeeta has been involved in testing the effectiveness of couples-based interventions in India and Rwanda, improving the construction of outcome measures in evaluation research and developing culturally sensitive measures of economic violence. Sangeeta is a social worker by training and is passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice. She hopes to widen access to research training and mentorship to address structural inequities in violence prevention research. Before joining SVRI, Sangeeta worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Edinburgh and is currently an honorary fellow at the University. She completed her MSW from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India, and PhD from Rutgers University, USA. She obtained postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Centre on Gender Equity and Health at the University of California, San Diego.
