SVRI is currently exploring whether and how to strengthen their specific contributions towards ending violence against children and child sexual abuse and advance our work in these areas in line with their broader strategy goals.

Upcoming Consultative Processes

We want to hear from you!

Background

SVRI is currently exploring whether and how to strengthen their specific contributions towards ending violence against children (VAC) and child sexual abuse (CSA) and advance our work in these areas in line with their broader strategy goals.

A recently completed review of SVRI’s past and current VAC and CSA work showed that the organisation has a substantial history of supporting work on these themes. We want to understand the research needs, opportunities, concerns, and challenges in the VAC and CSA field so that we can ensure that we make a significant positive contribution to the field.

Towards this end, we are engaging in a series of consultative processes both internally (staff, Board, and Leadership Council members) and externally (SVRI network members and other stakeholders involved in VAC, VAW and VAC-VAW intersections work, particularly in LMICs to gather data to inform the expansion and direction of SVRI’s future VAC and CSA work.

We are eager to hear from and include as many and as diverse a range of stakeholders as possible in these consultations. All stakeholders working to address VAW, VAC, or VAW and VAC are encouraged to join in and share your views.

Objectives

These processes aim to work towards specific outcomes:

  • Consulting with and getting input from stakeholders on SVRI’s specific strategy for strengthening VAC/CSA work.
  • Engaging with the politics and critical tensions of bringing the VAC and VAW fields together for greater collaboration and coordination to better meet the needs of children, adolescents, and women.
  • Gathering data on key questions emerging from the field including gaps and strategic priorities for research.online activities, such as: facilitated dialogues via online platforms; moderated discussion board; and online questionnaires.

Consultative processes

The consultative processes will take place between June-September 2021. We have planned several ways that people can engage with us including various online activities, such as: facilitated dialogues via online platforms; moderated discussion board; and online questionnaires.

We will aim to create safe spaces conducive to having real, open conversations where diverse ideas and opinions can be expressed and debated. Each consultation process will be carefully structured to maximise equitable participation and opportunities for input from diverse perspectives. We are currently developing a plan to ensure that these processes are widely accessible, including ensuring translation opportunities.

I. Online Facilitated Dialogues

Three external live conversation events are planned during which we hope to engage stakeholders from the VAC/CSA, VAC-VAW Intersections, and VAW fields. Each event will be conducted around one of two main themes.  After an initial introduction, participants will be randomly assigned into breakout rooms of 6-8 people with a facilitator in each. Each breakout room will have a different set of specific questions related to that theme. In addition to breakout rooms, we will be looking into using moderated discussion boards to enhance participation opportunities. Opportunities to sign up for these events will be announced via the SVRI Update and social media channels.

II. Moderated Discussion Boards

The moderated discussion boards will be open to all stakeholders and will occur in parallel to the online dialogues. We will aim to initiate and moderate a new theme every three weeks. We are developing the questions and prompts for the discussion boards and will aim to offer access in at least 3 languages. Links for these discussions will be shared via the SVRI Update and social media channels.

III. Online Questionnaire

A third opportunity for stakeholders to provide their input will be via an online questionnaire. Depending on the findings from the moderated discussion boards and initial live conversation event, we plan to develop an online questionnaire (via SurveyMonkey) including both open-ended and multiple choice questions on a range of topics related to the key themes. Links to this questionnaire will also be shared via the SVRI Update and social media channels.

Concluding Comments

At the end of these consultations, we will consolidate the data and share our position statement, strategy, and theory of change for our way forward. We are excited to embark on these consultations and hope you will join us to share your insights, ideas, and experiences. These inputs will be vital in shaping SVRI’s VAC and CSA work going forward. SVRI wants to ensure that our efforts will advance the field of VAC and CSA research, programming,
and policy.
