C%2F10.1016%5C%2Fj.jmh.2020.100003%27%3Ehttps%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fdoi.org%5C%2F10.1016%5C%2Fj.jmh.2020.100003%3C%5C%2Fa%3E%3C%5C%2Fdiv%3E%5Cn%3C%5C%2Fdiv%3E%22%2C%22data%22%3A%7B%22itemType%22%3A%22journalArticle%22%2C%22title%22%3A%22Migrant%20women%20and%20sexual%20and%20gender-based%20violence%20at%20the%20Colombia-Venezuela%20border%3A%20A%20qualitative%20study%22%2C%22creators%22%3A%5B%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Mariana%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Calder%5Cu00f3n-Jaramillo%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Diana%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Parra-Romero%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Luz%20Janeth%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Forero-Mart%5Cu00ednez%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Marta%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Royo%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Juan%20Carlos%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Rivillas-Garc%5Cu00eda%22%7D%5D%2C%22abstractNote%22%3A%22Background%5CnSexual%20and%20Gender-Based%20Violence%20%28SGBV%29%20affects%20women%20and%20girls%20in%20multiple%20ways.%20During%20migration%20and%20within%20humanitarian%20settings%2C%20migrant%20women%20and%20girls%20are%20exposed%20to%20different%20forms%20of%20SGBV%20and%20to%20higher%20vulnerabilities%20compared%20with%20those%20men%20encounter.%20Survivors%20of%20this%20kind%20of%20violence%20face%20challenges%20in%20accessing%20healthcare%20for%20reasons%20that%20not%20only%20include%20legal%20status%2C%20language%20barriers%2C%20discrimination%2C%20misinformation%20on%20the%20availability%20of%20healthcare%20services%2C%20but%20also%20the%20growing%20spread%20of%20conservative%20views%20regarding%20sexual%20and%20reproductive%20health%20which%20pose%20a%20considerable%20threat%20to%20human%20rights.%20This%20study%20was%20guided%20by%20the%20question%20of%20how%20humanitarian%20emergency%20preparedness%20and%20response%20initiatives%20within%20four%20cities%20at%20the%20Colombo-Venezuelan%20border%20are%20addressing%20SGBV.%20The%20goal%20of%20this%20research%20was%20threefold%3A%20first%2C%20to%20explain%20the%20level%20of%20implementation%20of%20the%20second%20goal%20of%20the%20MISP%2C%20which%20is%20to%20prevent%20and%20respond%20to%20the%20consequences%20of%20sexual%20violence%3B%20second%2C%20to%20assess%20the%20availability%20of%20services%20for%20migrants%20who%20have%20experienced%20some%20type%20of%20sexual%20violence%3B%20and%20third%2C%20to%20understand%20the%20perceptions%20of%20migrants%20regarding%20sexual%20and%20gender-based%20violence.%5CnMethods%20and%20Findings%5CnThis%20study%20assessed%20the%20degree%20of%20implementation%20of%20the%20Minimal%20Initial%20Service%20Package%20%28MISP%29%20using%20a%20set%20of%20tools%20developed%20by%20the%20Inter-Agency%20Working%20Group%20on%20Reproductive%20Health%20in%20Crises.%20This%20study%20combined%20the%20use%20of%20different%20qualitative%20methods%3A%20i%29%20a%20literature%20review%3B%20ii%29%2023%20interviews%20with%20key%20informants%20on%20sexual%20and%20reproductive%20health%3B%20iii%29%20an%20assessment%20of%2021%20health%20institutions%20which%20provide%20services%20to%20migrants%3B%20and%20iv%29%2024%20focus%20groups%20with%20migrants%20between%20the%20ages%20of%2014%20to%2049%20years%20old%20%28241%20participants%2C%20of%20which%20121%20were%20women%20and%20120%20were%20men%29.%20This%20research%20was%20conducted%20in%20four%20cities%20at%20the%20Colombo-Venezuelan%20border%20where%20there%20was%20the%20highest%20concentration%20of%20migrants.%20Ethical%20approval%20was%20granted%20by%20Profamilia%5Cu00b4s%20Advisory%20Committee%20on%20Research%20Ethics.%20Although%20preventing%20and%20managing%20the%20consequences%20of%20sexual%20violence%20is%20the%20second%20objective%20of%20the%20MISP%2C%20this%20study%20found%20several%20barriers%20for%20the%20guarantee%20of%20comprehensive%20healthcare%20for%20survivors%3A%20Venezuelan%20migrants%20do%20not%20usually%20consider%20that%20healthcare%20is%20a%20need%20for%20them%20after%20they%20have%20survived%20sexual%20violence%3B%20SGBV%20during%20migration%20is%20a%20common%20occurrence%20according%20to%20key%20informants%3B%20in%20three%20out%20of%20four%20cities%20there%20were%20existing%20organizations%20working%20on%20SGBV%2C%20but%20not%20all%20of%20them%20could%20offer%20comprehensive%20healthcare%20services%20in%20response%20to%20sexual%20violence.%5CnConclusions%5CnIn%20this%20study%2C%20we%20observed%20that%20migrants%20tend%20to%20be%20more%20exposed%20to%20Sexual%20and%20Gender-Based%20Violence%20due%20to%20the%20normalization%20of%20such%20forms%20of%20violence%20in%20the%20Colombian%20and%20Venezuelan%20cultures.%20Findings%20suggest%20that%20Venezuelan%20migrants%20are%20facing%20complex%20SGBV%20issues%20during%20the%20humanitarian%20emergency%20at%20the%20Colombia-Venezuela%20border.%20Recommendations%20include%20local%20health%20systems%20response%20teams%2C%20governments%20a
