Arti is a former lawyer who represented child survivors through the legal trial. Subsequently, witnessing the inadequacy of the legal system in meeting survivors’ justice needs, Arti worked on designing, implementing, and expanding a restorative justice pilot in New Delhi, India from 2017 to 2023. She has designed and facilitated restorative healing circles for child survivors, as well as reintegration restorative circles and restorative justice processes for children in conflict with the law. Arti has extensively trained governmental and non-governmental stakeholders including lawyers, judges, academia, civil society, and frontline workers on restorative justice as well as trauma-informed practice. Arti has also contributed to restorative justice research, including being the Lead Editor of the “Restorative Justice Around the Globe” project published in 2022. She teaches restorative justice at leading law schools in India as well as the Vermont Law School in the USA. Arti is passionate about exploring non-carceral, decolonized justice responses for survivors.
