Dr. Nora Khalaf-Elledge is a gender and development practitioner with over 15 years of experience working with international development organizations, including the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), the German Development Agency (GIZ), the Joint Learning Initiative (JLI), Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI), the International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD), as well as the gender offices of multiple United Nations (UN) agencies. Since 2015, she specializes in the intersection of religion and gender, especially assisting policymakers in engaging with this nexus more effectively. Nora is German-Egyptian and holds a PhD in Gender, Religion, and Development from the University of London, a Master’s in Gender and Development from IDS, and a Bachelor’s in Anthropology and Development from the University of Sussex. Her latest book, published by Routledge in 2022, illuminates the unconscious biases of policymakers in the context of religion and provides an analysis tool to separate patriarchy from religion.
