On 11 April 2025, the SVRI launched a self-paced online course focused on participatory approaches to childhood sexual violence research. During the launch webinar, attendees received an exclusive preview of the course modules and had the opportunity to pose their questions to the course development team, which included participatory research experts from the partner organisations.

Course Description
Power of Participation is a free, self-directed, online course. The course aims to introduce you to participatory approaches to childhood sexual violence research while ensuring meaningful and ethical engagement of children and youth.
By completing this course, you will have gained:
- knowledge of the foundations, ideas, and core concepts that informed the development of participatory approaches to research;
- new perspectives on ways to incorporate children and youth into the planning and designing of research;
- additional tools to perform safe and ethical participatory research with children and youth;
- an understanding of how to maintain safety of participants and researchers during data collection and analysis; and
- participatory approaches to writing up research and strategies to navigate engaging children and youth in dissemination and advocacy activities.
The course includes:
- lecture videos that introduce you to key concepts;
- interviews where researchers, practitioners and young participants share their perspectives and examples;
- demonstrations that could help you when incorporating a participatory approach;
- case examples and links to resources and reading to explore further; and
- quizzes and reflective exercises that give you a chance to apply what you have learned.
